AJ Dinsmore is a writer, producer, and graphic designer based in Los Angeles. As a Chinese-born girl raised in the middle of Nowhere, W(hite)yoming, AJ’s identity was consistently shaped by what others could see, not what they knew. This upbringing inspired AJ to write stories that examine appearance vs. reality, and why we nearly always accept the former with little curiosity for the latter.

 

In 2021, AJ wrote, directed and produced "Me With You, Without You,” a dark magical realism short that explores the horror we feel when we are unable to embrace ourselves for who we truly are. She was one of five writers selected to participate in the WeScreenplay Shorts Lab in 2021. She was a #startwith8 TV writer mentee in 2022. Most recently, AJ was selected as a writing mentee for the third annual Hillman Grad Mentorship Lab. Her scripts have placed in the ScreenCraft Short Film Competition and PAGE International Screenplay Awards, among others.

 

AJ supported the development of vital new stories by BIPOC and women-identifying writers from behind the scenes as a Project Coordinator & Lead Podcast Producer for BIPOC theatre company, Lower Depth Theatre. She is currently an Executive Assistant & Podcast Coordinator at boutique film company, The Lagralane Group. AJ received a BFA in Theatre - Acting from the University of Wyoming where she also studied screenwriting and publicity.
